Eduard Von Bock - Estonia 9530440

:basic:

Name: Eduard Von Bock
Age: 17
Nationality: Estonian
Birthday: 24th February

Occupation: Currently unemployed and not in formal education
Upper, Middle, or Lower Class?: Lower class masquerading as upper class
Attitude Towards Bots?: Something curious. He wants to learn more about them.

Appearance:
He appears to be fairly tall with a rather average build. Eduard looks a little older than he is, easily being mistaken for 20 or 21. His face shape is rather refined without appearing too sharp. There can't really be much said about his body shape either, there's no defined muscle although the accent of his ribs can barely be seen under his chest. Eduard's appearance is fairly no-nonsense. Clothing is simple and tends to remain on the smart casual side of things. His hair is straight cut and well kept, a shade of regular blond. There generally isn't much that stands out about him besides the thin rimmed glasses perched on his nose. For his apparent class one would assume that any eyesight problems would have been corrected through surgery or cybernetics. Most seem to pass it off as something for fashion but he's rarely seen without them. His general attitude towards his appearance is to keep himself presentable without slipping into pure vanity.

Personality:
Eduard is what some might consider two-faced. Not in the sense that there's a good and evil side to him but there seems to be two very distinct persona's that appear depending on the situation. On the surface he appears to be quite a composed individual. There's something very clear and concise about the way he speaks and reasons, even in the way he moves. Nothing unnecessary, straight to the point. His intelligence is clear and you can't help but feel a certain smugness from him about that fact. Deep down though, Eduard is quite a friendly individual, one that comes off as easy to get along with. He shows a lot of concern for the people he's close to although that concern can easily get out of hand and turn into uncontrollable worrying.

One thing Eduard seems to have trouble with is his ego. He's well aware of his skills and intelligence and likes to think of himself as being better than everyone. He has a hard time accepting someone is better than he is which often leads to jealousy issues. He isn't a vengeful person though, if someone is better than him he only works harder to improve his own skills. The desire to get better may be somewhat obsessive but he is passionate about the things he loves. Eduard is an extremely curious individual, always trying to find out how things work and how to make them better. He prides himself on his problem solving abilities but moreover he enjoys it. No matter how frustrated he gets on something the satisfaction of getting it all figured out is the best feeling in the world to him.

History:
Born into the lower class to a single mother he soon learned very quickly about how unfair the world was. While Eduard himself was born in Eishoff his mother had moved from Estonia very early on in her pregnancy, supposedly alone. She didn't talk much about his father and he learned it was better not to ask. He didn't mind though, she gave him all the love and compassion he could need. Reta Von Bock worked repairing electronics, a job that sometimes had her working long hours and sometimes even had her bring work home. It wasn't ideal but she had to support the both of them somehow. She didn't want to ignore Eduard but she couldn't slack off either and in the end they bonded over it. Whenever Reta had to bring work home she and Eduard would work on it together. She taught him how to build and repair all manner of things from phones to computers and Eduard was eager to learn, wanting to know how everything worked and what all the different components did.

When Reta had to work late Eduard often found himself on a computer she'd built for him herself. At first it was just to help him with school work, a fun project they did together but like the electronics Eduard found himself more and more curious about the way things worked. He took to programming quite quickly, first playing with scripts he found on the internet to modifying pre-existing programs and eventually trying to code his own. The more information he obtained the more he wanted. He always liked to think, think about how things worked, how to make them better, if they were good or bad, but the more he thought the more disillusioned he became.

He didn't find it fair. His mother worked so hard but their living conditions were still far from luxury. Eduard had always figured that if you worked hard good things would happen and he always looked up to his mother as a diligent and dedicated role model. It just didn't work out the way he thought. At the age of 13 his mother was made redundant, she tried to keep a positive attitude and it wasn't long before she found factory work but even then Eduard could see just how unfair things could be. He started to realise that no matter how hard he worked he would probably end up in the same situation as his mother, just scraping to get by no matter how hard he worked. While he used to be top of the class in school his grades started slipping, instead Eduard chose to focus more on his own studies. He started playing around with AI programming, never getting very far. He started building small robots, using whatever supplies he could get his hands on and while it was fun to see his programming take a physical form he saw it as more of a hobby, dismantling them and rebuilding them into better things until he got bored of the whole thing. It wasn't just the robots, he was tired of his life. He couldn't stand living in these conditions knowing he would never escape. With his mind geared towards problem solving and programming he started to see life as another program. He didn't have to go along with how it was made, he could hack into the system and make it better, right?

Now failing in school it was clear he'd never be able to get a scholarship into university since neither he nor his mother could pay for it themselves. That didn't stop Eduard from going though. Maybe he couldn't attend the lectures (although he'd sneak in when he could) but he was more than welcomed by the students, sharing knowledge and information and working on projects together. He was lucky in the fact he looked older than he was, no one would question the fact a sixteen year old was working with university students. No one seems to question his background either, Eduard figured the best way to make it to the upper class was to act like he was there already. He often sold his skills to other students, helping with homework and becoming something of an information broker in exchange for all manner of items. He never worked for money, or at least enough to really matter but he was practical, using his wits to trade items to his advantage in order to obtain nicer clothes and even some of the latest in computer and phone technology.

From his time at the university he started to learn more and more about bots. Some of the students had even been nice enough to introduce him to the ones their families owned. Eduard's curiosity was peaked. Even when toying with AI technology he'd never been able to get anything close to some of capabilities some of the bots he'd met displayed. It was like they were almost human. He wanted nothing more than to get his hands on one, take it apart and see how it all worked but even with his wits he hadn't been able to obtain one. Instead he researched as much as he could about them but it still didn't seem enough. Tired with books and websites he knew there was only one place he could get the information he wanted.

Eduard was resolved. His whole life had been towards the betterment of technology and if he could get into one of the largest grossing companies, learned all he could about them and their product and made it better he could get the life he and his mother so rightly deserved in his mind.

RP Sample:
He stared directly into it’s eyes, contemplating it’s whole existence. It didn’t blink once, it’s expression unchanging. While it’s face suggested it couldn’t comprehend an emotion such as curiosity it’s words expressed otherwise.

“Sir, may I help you?” Eduard backed off a little in surprise. As much as he told himself it was only a computer program inside a physical object it sounded surprisingly human. Not only that but it looked surprisingly human as well. Had it not been for the quirks in the personality he would have been completely fooled.

“Don’t worry about it, he’s just never seen a bot before,” the short haired girl next to him smiled. He’d been working with her on a virtual reality project and she’d been nice enough to invite him to her house in the western sector. Amelia her name was. Eduard paid no attention to her, instead going on to study the other features of her bot’s face. It was modeled after a young woman, fair complexion and rich mahogany hair neatly tied up in a bun. Appearance was obviously important to it’s manufacturer. As he studied it it’s eyes followed him but it’s body remained impossibly still. It was actually rather unnerving how human it looked and how inhuman it acted.

“Come on, you’re starting to act like a creep!” Amelia snorted with a playful tone. Eduard straightened up, a little flustered. With the line between organic and synthetic starting to blur he was almost forgetting the proper way to act himself.
“You’re right, sorry,” Eduard nervously laughed off. Holding out his hand he offered a genuine smile. “My name’s Eduard Von Bock, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”
“The pleasure’s all mine,” the bot answered, taking his hand. A pre-programmed response, of course. The smile it offered didn’t seem genuine somehow and the handshake was weak. It felt strange, feeling a human hand that didn’t feel human take his. Throughout the short handshake Eduard tried his best to feel the mechanics under the skin. Amelia was right, he was acting like a creep.
